Breast cancer is one of the most frequent tumors worldwide, the latest data reflect that in Spain around 33,307 new breast cancers are diagnosed per year (Data on breast cancer in Spain 2019).

Fortunately, thanks to medical and technological advances, survival is increasing, currently reaching a rate of 90%. COVID-19 has caused a socio-economic situation that has aggravated the reality of people who have been diagnosed or are being treated for breast cancer.

The Spanish Association Against Cancer, in collaboration with the surgery services of the Hospital de León and the Hospital del Bierzo, facilitates the FREE delivery of the initial prosthesis to all women who require it after surgery, with the aim of helping the woman to recover her previous image

The number of people who receive these prostheses per year is between 100 and 120 people in the hospital of León and around 60 in the Hospital del Bierzo, added to those that are given in the headquarters of both cities, the prostheses donated by AECC León to patients amount to more than 200 a year.

In SOLTRA, solidarity is a fundamental principle, especially in times of special difficulty such as the current one, so we wanted to contribute a small grain of sand to help those people who are currently fighting against this disease.

Last Thursday, the headquarters of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in León hosted the ceremony of delivery of 420 textile prostheses of different sizes and 120 oncological caps destined for both the headquarters of León and Ponferrada. These prostheses are indicated for the first laying after the intervention for their delicacy and lightness. Oncological caps on the other hand protect the scalp of patients in the process of treatment with chemotherapy both from the sun and from low or high temperatures. Both products have been made by SOLTRA.

The event was attended by María Jesús García Armesto (Vice President of the Provincial Council of the AECC), Luis M.ª López Martínez (Manager of the Provincial Board of León of the AECC), and on behalf of SOLTRA, the General Director of SOLTRA, Jose Antonio Idoeta and Rocío García.

Solidarity and Work are the two words that form the acronym of SOLTRA, a Leonese company that has been creating employment opportunities for people with different abilities for more than 20 years, thus facilitating their inclusion in society. SOLTRA’s values and social action are materialized in Corporate Social Responsibility actions such as this one with the AECC or as the movement created last year “Make yourself included” whose objective is to raise awareness in society of the importance of diversity and inclusion.
